Conservative, Reform, Independent and Labour councillors have pushed through a decisive, common-sense outcome at Wiltshire Council, securing action on life-saving bleed kits — despite a Liberal Democrat attempt to delay by sending the proposal to a committee, and avoid taking a position on the important motion from Cllrs Boaz Barry and Chris Vaughan.
In a stark contrast of leadership styles, Conservative and Reform councillors stood up, took responsibility, and made a decision, while Liberal Democrats sought to kick the issue into the long grass by sending the idea to be discussed in a scrutiny committee.
At the heart of the motion was support for public access bleed kits — simple, practical equipment that can help members of the public respond to catastrophic bleeding in an emergency. These kits are widely recognised as a vital, life-saving intervention, buying precious time before emergency services arrive. Conservative and Reform councillors were clear that this is exactly the kind of common sense, practical action residents expect from their council — not delay or political manoeuvring.

This was a simple, practical measure that could help save lives, and residents expect us to act accordingly. What we saw instead from the Liberal Democrats was yet more procedural pedantry — an attempt to delay a straightforward decision rather than engage with it. I’m pleased Conservative, Reform, Independent and Labour councillors chose to focus on real-live outcomes to make sure this important step on bleed kits for communities across Wiltshire, was agreed.
